“Come Alive”

there are things that need to be said
things that make the heart sing
or ache
words unspoken that yearn for the air
that once breathed into being
become like feathers
floating away
leaving in their wake
a sense of freedom and fulfillment

there are things that must be said
hopes and dreams require fuel
without voice they cannot emerge into the light
without the light they cannot be seen
and shared

there are things which we fear to speak
words that clutch and claw at our hearts
threatening to tear us open
leave us raw and bleeding
these too must be spoken
must be exposed and examined
for they are impediments to our true selves
to our happiness
our wholeness

set pen to paper, hold a brush in your hand
make music and art and poetry
and give breath to your fears
to your hopes
your dreams and beliefs
your wondering and your pain
allow it to live
and then to be free

“Thread-like and Tangled”

there is beauty in the way
we think
men and women
so vastly unalike and yet
bound by hungers
so similar
tangled threads which do not
(as some might presume)
make us damaged
instead we are strengthened
given power
by that which we wish for

A very late addition to this past Sunday’s Sunday Whirl. I was in the midst of birthday festivities and missed it, but have finally caught up and was drawn to post this.

oneword: fences

there are fences in the mind
fences that cordon off my thoughts
forming compartments for people
separating ideas
dividing possibilities
sometimes I wonder what my life would be like
without fences

it is not fair to let things be divided
segregated for no good reason

fences in the mind creating pastures of thought
fields broken
hillsides cracked with artificial airy walls

there are fences in the mind
I seek to pull them apart, stick by stick
post by post
freeing the lumbering thoughts they corral
opening the expanses of thought
bringing to life possibilities

fences fall down
