“Safekeeping”

hidden behind the dusty books
and the knick-knacks collected over decades
it sits
safely held in a niche
protected (mostly) from the layers
of time that have settled on everything else
kept away from grabby hands
and filching fingers
a single glass heart rests
on a cushion of threadbare cloth
a treasure
kept secret from everyone
except for the one to whom it belongs

Written to bring two lovely prompts together. One Single Impression gave us ‘niche’, and Sunday Scribbling gave us ‘treasure’, so for them both I give you this. Why not go see what others have written?
