“Tock Tick”

the clock ticks rhythmically
she sits, listening.
it forms a tempo for her whirling thoughts
for the tempest scattering the pages upon which her memories rest.
she closes her eyes
tries to make sense of them
faces and voices half remembered
fragments and shards of a life that is no longer hers.
